Major June 2027 Festivals Explained
Apara Ekadashi – 1 June
The month begins with a vrat on its very first day. Apara Ekadashi, the Ekadashi of Jyeshtha Krishna Paksha, falls on Tuesday, 1 June.
Lord Vishnu is worshipped on this day, and many people traditionally give water, fruit or a hand fan in charity because of the heat. Amanta regions count this same Ekadashi under Vaishakha Krishna Paksha. For the Parana time on the next morning, check a local Panchang.
Vat Savitri Vrat and Shani Jayanti – 4 June
Jyeshtha Amavasya falls on Friday, 4 June, and two well-known observances share it. Married women keep Vat Savitri Vrat, and the day is also marked as Shri Shanidev Jayanti.
For Vat Savitri, women traditionally worship a banyan tree, wind raw cotton thread around its trunk and listen to the story of Savitri and Satyavan. On Shani Jayanti, many people light a mustard oil diya and offer black til at a Shani temple.
In western and southern regions, the same vrat is kept on Purnima instead of Amavasya. That is why the Panchang shows it again later in the month, starting on Wednesday, 16 June and observed on Friday, 18 June.
Ganga Dussehra – 13 June
Jyeshtha Shukla Dashami is on Sunday, 13 June. According to tradition, this is the day Ganga descended to earth, so a dip in the river and daan are the main customs.
Those who cannot travel to a river often add a few drops of Gangajal to the bath water at home. Sherbet, sattu, melons and earthen water pots are popular items for charity, which suits the peak of summer. Batuk Bhairav Jayanti is listed on the same day.
Nirjala Ekadashi – 14 June
The strictest Ekadashi of the year comes the very next day, on Monday, 14 June. It is the Ekadashi of Jyeshtha Shukla Paksha, traditionally kept without food or water, and Gayatri Jayanti falls with it.
Many people believe this one vrat carries the merit of all the Ekadashis of the year. That belief is the reason even those who skip other Ekadashis try to keep this one.
A single date is given for all traditions. Mithuna Sankranti follows on Tuesday, 15 June, when the vrat is opened. For the Parana time and the Sankranti moment, check a local Panchang.
Jyeshtha Purnima – 18 and 19 June
The full moon is spread over two days. Purnima Tithi lasts through the whole of Friday, 18 June, so the Purnima Vrat is kept that day, along with Sant Kabir Das Jayanti.
It is still present at sunrise on Saturday, 19 June, ending soon after. The morning snan and daan are therefore done on the second day. Ashadha begins the day after that in the Purnimanta system.
Yogini Ekadashi – 30 June
June closes the way it opened, with an Ekadashi. Yogini Ekadashi of Ashadha Krishna Paksha falls on Wednesday, 30 June, and Amanta regions place it in Jyeshtha Krishna Paksha.
By this time the first rains have usually reached many regions. The vrat is kept in the usual way with Vishnu puja and phalahar, and one date is shown for all traditions.
Vrat Rules, Food and Precautions for June 2027
No two homes fast in exactly the same way, and each sampradaya has its own rules, so follow what is practised at home. The vrats in the जून हिंदू कैलेंडर 2027 fall in the hottest weeks of the year, which makes water and rest as much a part of planning as the puja.
Commonly chosen vrat foods:
- Watermelon, muskmelon, mango and banana
- Milk, curd, lassi and makhana
- Sabudana khichdi, kuttu or singhara atta, boiled potato
- Sendha namak in place of ordinary salt
- Coconut water, lemon water, bel sherbet and thin chaas
- Soaked chana and seasonal fruit as prasad on Vat Savitri
Foods traditionally avoided:
- Rice, wheat and other grains on Ekadashi
- Pulses and beans on Ekadashi
- Onion and garlic on vrat days
- Ordinary salt on a phalahar vrat
- Food and water both on Nirjala Ekadashi, for those keeping it strictly
Practical precautions:
- A waterless fast in June heat is not safe for everyone. Children, pregnant women, older adults and people with diabetes, blood pressure or kidney problems may keep a lighter vrat or consult their doctor.
- Stop the fast and drink water if there is dizziness, headache or a very dry mouth.
- Stay indoors in the afternoon and finish temple visits in the morning.
- Take care on wet ghat steps and keep children close during a river bath.
- Place diyas away from dry leaves and the hanging roots of the banyan tree.
- Cover water pots kept for daan and refill them with fresh water daily.
- Leave used flowers and thread in soil or a compost pit, not in the river.
Puja Vidhi for Major June 2027 Observances
Vat Savitri Vrat
This vrat is kept by married women, traditionally for the long life of the husband. Where no banyan tree is nearby, a small branch planted in a pot is used in many homes.
Samagri: raw cotton thread, roli, akshat, soaked chana, seasonal fruit, a water-filled lota, flowers, dhoop, a diya and a bamboo fan.
Puja Vidhi:
- Bathe in the morning and wear fresh clothes, often red or yellow.
- Offer water at the root of the banyan tree.
- Apply roli and akshat on the trunk and offer flowers.
- Walk around the tree while winding the thread, seven times or as per custom.
- Listen to or read the Savitri-Satyavan katha.
- Offer chana and fruit, then seek the blessings of elders.
Ganga Dussehra
Bathing and giving are the two parts of this day. Customs along the river differ from those followed at home, and both are accepted.
Samagri: Gangajal, a clean lota, flowers, akshat, a diya, sweets and items for daan such as fruit, sattu or a water pot.
Puja Vidhi:
- Bathe in the river, or at home with a little Gangajal mixed in the water.
- Offer water to the Sun while facing east.
- Light a diya and offer flowers to Ganga, or to a kalash of Gangajal at home.
- Recite a Ganga stotra or a simple prayer.
- Give the daan items to someone in need.
Nirjala Ekadashi
Devotion on this day is shown through restraint more than ritual. Those unable to stay without water commonly keep it with fruit and water, and that is widely accepted.
Samagri: a Vishnu idol or picture, yellow flowers, tulsi leaves, chandan, fruit, a ghee diya, dhoop and a filled water pot for charity.
Puja Vidhi:
- Take the sankalp after an early bath.
- Offer chandan, flowers and tulsi to Lord Vishnu.
- Light the diya and read the Ekadashi katha.
- Spend the day quietly, with naam jap or reading.
- Give a water pot, fruit or a fan in charity.
- Open the vrat next morning with water first, then light food.
