Major April 2027 Festivals Explained
Papmochani Ekadashi – 2 April
The last Ekadashi of the outgoing Samvat falls on Friday, 2 April. It belongs to Chaitra Krishna Paksha in the Purnimanta system, and Amanta regions count it under Phalguna Krishna Paksha.
Traditionally, this vrat is kept with Vishnu puja and a day of simple, grain-free food. One date is shown for all traditions. For the Parana time on the next morning, check a local Panchang.
Chaitra Navratri and Nav Samvatsar – 7 April
A new year and a Navratri begin together. Chaitra Shukla Pratipada is on Wednesday, 7 April, the day after the Amavasya that closes Vikram Samvat 2083.
Vikram Samvat 2084 starts on this date. In the north, it is the day of Kalash Sthapana, while western regions celebrate it as Gudi Padwa with a decorated gudi raised outside the door. Both Purnimanta and Amanta followers mark the new year on the same day.
Navratri then runs up to Ram Navami. In many homes, the house is cleaned a day earlier and barley is sown in a small clay pot beside the kalash. For the Kalash Sthapana Muhurat, check a local Panchang.
Gangaur Pujan – 9 April
Chaitra Shukla Tritiya comes on Friday, 9 April, and it is the main day of Gangaur. Women worship Gauri and Isar, traditionally with clay idols, fresh grass and water carried in decorated pots.
Sindhara falls a day earlier, when married daughters receive sweets and clothes according to regional custom. Matsya Jayanti and Saubhagya Sundari Teej Vrat are listed on the same Tritiya.
Durga Ashtami, Baisakhi and Mesha Sankranti – 14 April
Three big occasions share Wednesday, 14 April. Chaitra Shukla Ashtami makes it Durga Ashtami, the Sun’s entry into Mesha makes it Sankranti, and the north-west celebrates Baisakhi as the harvest festival.
Kanya Pujan is done on Ashtami in many homes, with halwa, puri and kala chana served to young girls. Others do it the next day on Navami, and both customs are accepted.
Kharmas also ends with this Sankranti. Marriage Muhurats return a few days later, from 19 April onwards. For the Sankranti moment, check a local Panchang.
Shri Ram Navami – 15 April
Navratri closes with Ram Navami on Thursday, 15 April, the Navami of Chaitra Shukla Paksha. The Navami Tithi is shown lasting till 13:23, so it covers the midday hour traditionally linked with Lord Ram’s birth.
Temples hold a midday aarti and rock a small cradle for the infant Ram. At home, people read the Ramcharitmanas, finish the Navratri vrat and immerse the barley shoots respectfully. A single date is given for all traditions.
Kamada Ekadashi – 17 April
The first Ekadashi of the new Samvat is Kamada Ekadashi on Saturday, 17 April. It falls in Chaitra Shukla Paksha, two days after Ram Navami.
Coming so soon after nine days of Navratri fasting, it can feel like a lot. Many people keep it light with fruit and milk. Pradosh Vrat follows on the Sunday.
Hanuman Janmotsav – 20 April
Chaitra Purnima is on Tuesday, 20 April, and it is celebrated as Shri Hanuman Janmotsav. That it lands on a Tuesday, Hanuman ji’s own weekday, makes it special for many devotees.
Sindoor, chameli oil and boondi or besan laddoos are the usual offerings. The month-long Vaishakh Snan also begins on this Purnima. According to regional custom, some communities celebrate Hanuman’s birth in other months.
Vrat Rules, Food and Precautions for April 2027
Every home has its own way of fasting, and each sampradaya has its own rules. With Navratri in the middle, the अप्रैल हिंदू कैलेंडर 2027 asks for more fasting days than most months, and the weather is turning warm.

- Go easy on fried vrat snacks over nine days, and include fruit and curd.
- Keep the akhand jyot on a metal plate, away from curtains and out of reach of children.
- Never leave a burning diya unattended at night.
